Venezuela presidential election: Maduro declared winner by government-controlled authority -the guardian

베네수엘라 대통령 선거: 정부 관리 기관 마두로를 당선자로 공표

Nicolás Maduro has been declared the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election by the government-controlled electoral authority – a result that appeared to dash opposition hopes of ending 25 years of socialist rule and was immediately contested by his political rivals and several governments in the region. After a six-hour delay in releasing the results of Sunday’s election sparked an outpouring of concern from South American governments, the national electoral council claimed Maduro had won with 51.21% of votes compared with 44.2% for his rival, the former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia. The council said that with about 80% of votes counted, Maduro had secured more than five million compared with González’s 4.4 million.

니콜라스 마두로가 선거관리위원회(정부 관리 선거 기관)에 의해 베네수엘라 대통령 선거 당선자로 공표되었는데 이번 결과는 25년간의 사회주의자 통치 종식이라는 야당의 희망을 꺾은 것으로 보였다. 마두로의 정치적 경쟁자와 그 지역 몇몇 정부는 즉각 그 결과에 이의를 제기했다. 일요일 선거 결과 발표가 6시간 지연되자 남미 정부들로부터 우려가 쏟아져 나온 후, 국가 선거 위원회는 마두로의 경쟁자인 전직 외교관 에드문도 곤살레스 우루티아가 44.2%를 득표한 것에 비해 마두로가 51.21%를 득표하여 승리했다고 주장했다. 선거 위원회는 약 80%의 집계가 이루어진 상황에서 마두로가 500만 표 이상을 득표한 데 반해 곤잘레스는 440만 표를 득표했다고 밝혔다.

Maduro dedicated his win to his mentor, the late president Hugo Chávez, who anointed Maduro as his successor shortly before his premature death in 2013. The result was celebrated by Maduro allies including the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez who hailed a “historic victory” and called it a triumph of “the dignity and courage of the Venezuelan people”. Bolivia’s leftwing leader, Luis Arce, also celebrated the result of an election that was held on what would have been Chávez’s 70th birthday.

마두로는 승리의 영광을 그의 멘토인 작고한 우고 차베스 대통령에게 돌렸다. 우고 차베스는 2013년 이른 나이에 죽기 직전 자신의 후계자로 마두로를 지목했다. 미겔 디아스카넬 베르무데즈 쿠바 대통령 등 동맹국 지도자들은 이번 선거 결과를 축하했는데 쿠바 대통령은 “역사적인 승리”라고 추켜세우며, 이 결과를 “베네수엘라 국민의 품위(위엄)와 용기”의 승리라고 불렀다. 볼리비아의 루이스 아르세 좌파 대통령도 차베스의 70번째 생일에(차베스가 살아있었다면 70번째 생일이 되었을 날에) 치러진 선거 결과를 축하했다.

But there was condemnation and questioning from elsewhere in the region. Chile’s president, Gabriel Boric, tweeted: “Maduro’s regime must understand that the results it has published are hard to believe ... Chile will not recognize any result that is not verifiable.” Peru’s foreign minister, Javier González-Olaechea, said his government also rejected the result. The government of Costa Rica said it categorically rejected what it considered a “fraudulent” result. The Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado – who had thrown her weight behind González’s campaign after being banned from running herself – rejected the result, claiming the opposition had won in every single state.

그러나 남미 지역 내 다른 국가에서는 비난과 의문이 제기되었다. 가브리엘 보리치 칠레 대통령은 “마두로 정부는 그들이 발표한 선거 결과가 믿기 어렵다는 것을 알아야만 한다... 칠레는 검증할 수 없는 결과는 인정하지 않을 것이다.”라고 트윗했다. 하비에르 곤잘레스 올라에체아 페루 외교부 장관은 페루 정부도 선거 결과를 받아들이지 않는다고 했다. 코스타리카 정부는 “부정” 선거 결과로 여기며 단연코 받아들이지 않는다고 밝혔다. 자신의 출마가 금지된 후 곤잘레스를 지지한 베네수엘라 야당 지도자 마리아 코리나 마차도는 모든 주에서 야당이 승리했다고 주장하며 이번 선거 결과를 인정하지 않았다.
