CNN )A court in military-run Myanmar has sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s deposed former leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, to three additional years in jail for corruption, a source familiar with the case told CNN, extending her total prison term to 26 years. Wednesday’s verdict is the latest in a string of punishments meted out against the 77-year-old, a figurehead of opposition to decades of military rule who led Myanmar for five years before being forced from power in a coup in early 2021.

Suu Kyi was found guilty of receiving $500,000 in bribes from a local tycoon, a charge she denied, according to the source. Her lawyers have said the series of crimes leveled against her are politically motivated.

수치는 자국의 거물급 인사에게서 5십만 달러의 뇌물을 받은 혐의로 유죄를 받았으나 그 혐의를 부인하고 있다고 소식통이 전했다. 그녀의 변호사들은 그녀를 겨냥한 여러 혐의들은 정치적인 동기가 있다고 했다.

Suu Kyi is currently being held in solitary confinement at a prison in the capital Naypyidaw. Last month, Suu Kyi was found guilty of electoral fraud and sentenced to three years in prison with hard labor, in a trial related to the November 2020 general election that her National League for Democracy won in a landslide, defeating a party created by the military.

It was the first time Suu Kyi had been sentenced to hard labor since the 2021 military coup. She was given the same punishment in a separate trial under a previous administration in 2009 but that sentence was commuted. Suu Kyi has also previously been found guilty of offenses ranging from graft to election violations.

아웅산 수치가 2021년 군사 쿠데타 이후 노역형을 받은 것은 이번이 처음이다. 그녀는 2009년 이전 정권하의 다른 재판에서 같은 처벌을 받았으나 감형받았다. 그전에도 뇌물수수부터 선거법 위반까지 여러 위법 행위로 유죄를 선고받았었다.

 

Rights groups have repeatedly expressed concerns about the punishment of pro-democracy activists in the country since the military seized power. Last week, a military court in Myanmar sentenced a Japanese journalist to 10 years in prison for sedition and violating a law on electronic communications after he filmed an anti-government protest in July, a Japanese diplomat said.

군부가 권력을 잡은 이후로 미얀마에서 친민주 운동가를 처벌하는 것에 대해 인권 단체들은 꾸준히 우려를 표명해 오고 있다. 지난주, 미얀마 군사 법원은 한 일본인 기자에게 폭력 선동 혐의와 전자 통신에 관한 법률 위반 혐의로 10년 수감형을 선고했는데 이 일은 그 기자가 지난 7월 반정부 시위를 촬영한 후 이뤄졌다.
