(CNN)The Senate confirmed President Joe Biden's Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson on Thursday in a historic vote that paves the way for her to become the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in the nation. The tally was 53-47, with Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Mitt Romney of Utah and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joining Democrats to vote in favor.

The confirmation represents a significant victory for Democrats, which they can tout as bipartisan, and a way for the President to deliver on a campaign promise at a time when the US faces a number of challenges at home and abroad, including soaring inflation and the crisis in Ukraine.

이번 인준은 민주당이 초당적이라고 홍보할 수 있는 의미있는 승리이며 미국이 치솟는 인플레이션과 우쿠라이나 위기를 포함해서 국내외 여러 난제에 직면한 시기에 조 바이든 대통령이 선거운동 공약을 이행한 한 방법(방안)에 해당한다.

Democrats broke out into loud applause and cheers when the vote was gaveled. The vote also marks a major milestone for the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary, although Jackson's confirmation won't change the ideological balance of the court.

투표 결과가 나오자 민주당원들은 큰 박수와 환호성을 터뜨렸다. 이번 인준 투표가 대법원과 연방 사법제도에 있어서 매우 획기적인 이정표를 찍은 것이기도 하지만, 잭슨의 인준이 대법원의 보수와 진보의 이념 균형을 바꾸지는 않을 것이다.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to serve as vice president, presided over the chamber during the historic vote in her capacity as president of the Senate. Jackson will be sworn in after Justice Stephen Breyer retires sometime this summer.

Senate Democrats and the White House have continually highlighted the historic nature of the nomination. Ahead of the final vote, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the moment a "joyous, momentous, groundbreaking day."

Judge Jackson’s confirmation was a historic moment for our nation. We’ve taken another step toward making our highest court reflect the diversity of America. She will be an incredible Justice, and I was honored to share this moment with her.
